At Holy Family, we believe that high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, and reflect when creating their own works of art, craft and design.
As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how these both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
The skills and knowledge that children will develop throughout each art & design and design & technology topic are mapped across each year group and throughout the school to ensure progression.
The emphasis on knowledge and skills ensures that children understand the context of the work, as well as the artists and designers that they are learning about and being inspired by. This approach enables links to form, deepening understanding in other curriculum areas as well developing mastery in the key processes of art, design and technology.
