EYFS Intent

Intent

At Holy Family Catholic Primary School, our enriching EYFS curriculum is designed to build upon and value each child’s previous learning—both from other settings and their experiences at home. It offers exciting, hands-on learning opportunities that inspire curiosity and a love of discovery from the very start of their school journey.

Every child at Holy Family is recognised as a special and unique individual, celebrated for who they are and the differences they bring. The ability to learn is nurtured through our Gospel Values: Love, Humility, Respect, Forgiveness, Peace, Honesty, and Justice. We are committed to providing meaningful learning experiences that inspire a lifelong love of learning.

We believe our school should be a joyful and caring place where all children feel safe, valued, and empowered to take risks, make mistakes, and grow. Throughout their time in EYFS, we aim to foster a deep sense of belonging to our school family and wider community, preparing each child for a confident transition into Year One.

During their time in EYFS, children will grow in strength and independence—developing the ability to make thoughtful choices, self-reflect, and become kind, capable, and curious lifelong learners.

We work in close partnership with parents and carers to nurture happy, independent children who strive to do their very best and reach their God-given potential.

We follow the children’s interests and enthusiasm, using them as a springboard for planning opportunities that consolidate, strengthen, and extend their knowledge and skills—helping them to achieve their goals.

Our key aims in EYFS are to:

  • Create an inspiring indoor and outdoor environment that supports, excites, and challenges children’s learning.
  • Ensure all children make strong progress from their individual starting points and are well-prepared to reach the Early Learning Goals by the end of the Foundation Stage.
  • Support and guide a smooth transition into Year One.
  • Plan a curriculum that allows children to develop essential knowledge and skills on a daily basis.
  • Nurture children’s spirituality, creativity, interdependence, independence, thinking skills, and their confidence to challenge themselves.
