Term 1 2023-24

Welcome to Year 5 Term 1. We have an exciting term ahead of us.

We look forward to exploring our new class book - ‘Skellig’ By David Almond.

We will also be delving into the world of Andy Warhol to create our own masterpieces inspired by the artist, who became world-famous for using every day items such as cans of Campbells soup.

In Science, we will look at the properties of different materials and how they can useful to humans.

WB - 02/10/2023

Collectively as a class, we have decided this has been our busiest week so far. We have been very lucky again to have another famous author in for a creative workshop and question time. We have: been swimming again for our PE session, looked smart and smiled our best for our school photos, some of us have had our flu jabs, parents evening and to top off the week we had crazy hair day.

We have had such a busy week with lots of visitors to our classroom. Six of our class were lucky enough to take part in the start of a new school year mass at the Aylesford Priory. Nestled in amongst our normal learning days, we were visited by a famous author and our very own Father Desmond for question time.

Our third week has comes to an end!
We started our week learning our song in music, even after only 3 weeks, we are sounding really good. We are continuing explore our chosen language -French- this week we have been learning to say what different sports we like. On Wednesday morning we were lucky to have Fiona from Maidstone Library come into our school for a special assembly. She presented all the children, who participated in the Summer Reading Challenge, with a free book as a congratulations. What a wonderful gift! We have also been looking at what makes a ‘Good role model’ in our RE lesson. We created a charter in groups of  the qualities a person would need to portray.  Scroll down for a snippet of our week.

Where did that week go!
We have had such a hectic second week. We were very lucky to have the Family Trust come in to school to deliver a special assembly. We now have our new expectations displayed proudly in our classroom. We have completed a variety of assessments. Science has seen us experimenting with dissolving substances in different water temperatures and in Geography we have been finding out about where we live and our place in the whole world.

What a first week we have had in Year 5.

We are well on our way with our first piece of writing using our class book, we have assigned all roles in the classroom, we have now become part of the 'Mini Vinnies', conducted our first science experiment, learnt how to say what we like and don't like in French, explored the history of  our class saint - St Anthony-  and even participated in some 'Land Swimming'- lead by Mr Mead, who it also a trained lifeguard.
