Term 1 - 2021-22

Welcome to St Anthony's Term 1 class page.

On Tuesday each class at Holy Family watched a live streamed Mass from St Simon Stock, lead by The Reverend Monsignor Canon John O'Toole, he delivered a beautiful Mass Of Thanksgiving. Our very own Mrs Foster, along with Mrs Underhill and our two RE Leaders from year 5, were lucky enough to go along to St Simon Stock.

CAFOD Workshop.

This term we had Maggie come and deliver a workshop on behalf of CAFOD.  We looked at the different keys which represented the different ways of Catholic Social Teaching: dignity, common good, participation, solidarity, justice, stewardship, promoting peace, preferential option for the poor and subsidiarity. The children worked in groups to discuss which kind of Catholic Social Teaching would link to different situations.

Science.

Our Science topic this term is Properties and Changes of Material.

We have been busy carrying out experiments on thermal insulators, by using different materials to determine which would keep the ice the coldest. We have tested the conductivity of different materials by creating an electrical circuit, and investigated which material allowed electricity to flow through to light the bulb. These materials were either conductors (allows current) or insulators (prevents current).

We then experimented with various different ingredients to find out which are soluable (can be dissolved), and which are insoluable (can not be dissolved).

Then the children experimented with seperating solids. To find out if; and how, this can be done.

Art.

We are learning about Pablo Picasso this term in Art.

We have looked at Picasso's life and his work. The children had a go at drawing self portraits; before and after learning about how to partition and proportion the shape of a face. They then created their own Cubism style art work.
