Term 2 - 2022-23

This term we have loved learning all about dinosaurs! We have been reading Doctosaurus, Leilong's Too Long and we will read Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs this week. We even had a visit from Leilong in school...

Writing and mark making

We've loved writing about our dinosaur stories, but we've also done lots of other writing! We've written our Dinosaur Café menus, and labelling the parts of a dinosaur. We have also enjoyed our volcano Write Dancing and drawing scenes from our book. We are still practising writing our names every morning.

In maths we have been using shapes to make dinosaur pictures, using positional vocabulary to direct our dinosaur around the obstacle course, practicing 1-1 counting with our trucks, and learnt how to write numbers 1-5. We have also started thinking about the composition of 4 and 5 using ladybird spots.

When we came into school one morning, we couldn't believe our eyes! Our classroom was a mess and there were big footprints on the floor. We carried out an investigation, and discovered they were dinosaur footprints. We all decided Leilong had visited during the night to be our school bus. We talked some more about how big dinosaurs were in real life, and compared our body parts to theirs. We also looked at our life-size dinosaur on the playground, working out how we could measure it. Later on during our topic, we discussed why there are no more dinosaurs alive but we can still find their fossils. Luckily, our sand pit was full of fossils for us to discover!

Science - materials

We learnt the names of different materials and discussed whether they were hard or soft. We also talked about how some materials, such as plastic, can be both! We put all our materials together to make a dinosaur, and then experimented with some junk modelling.

Art - printing, playdough and junk modelling

We have practised the art of printing by recreating our dinosaur scales. We have also made dinosaurs from playdough, counting their legs, and naming the parts of the body. We have absolutely loved making our dinosaurs out of junk modelling after learning about materials in Science.

RE - Advent and preparing for Christmas

During our RE lessons we have been talking about the meaning of Christmas and how we can prepare for Advent. Firstly, we talked about how parents would prepare for a newborn baby, and then how we could prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas. We made a wreath and learned about what the candles represent. We also wrote our own Christmas activities to put inside our Advent Calendar, ready for the 1st of December.
