Welcome to Term 5!
We are excited for a term full of new learning and adventures. In English, we are looking forward to exploring our new book The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf, using it to inspire our writing and discussions. We will also be celebrating the crowning of Mary, a special moment in our school calendar. In Science, we’ll be investigating Living Things and their Habitats, discovering the amazing diversity of life around us. In DT, we will be getting creative by designing and making sculptures inspired by the artist Antony Gormley. In RE, we will be deepening our understanding of our faith as we explore the significance of Pentecost. It promises to be a fantastic term!
RE:
We are deepening our understanding of the story of the Road to Emmaus. This powerful event reminds us that Jesus is always with us, even when we do not immediately recognise Him. As we explore this story, we will reflect on how the disciples' journey from sadness to joy mirrors our own faith journeys. We will also think about the importance of recognising Jesus in the people and moments around us, and how this story strengthens our understanding of hope, faith, and the presence of Christ in our everyday lives.
RE - Conscious Alley
In our RE lesson we have been exploring Damascus and what it means to become a disciple, what inspires and influences our own actions and that of others.
Click the QR codes below to see one of our groups conscious alley, where they decide if they want to become a disciple based on the words from believers and non-believers.
What would you choose?
RE - Transformation in our daily life
In our Year 5 RE lessons, we have been exploring the theme of transformation by studying the story of Saul’s dramatic change when he became Paul. We focused on the moment Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus, looking closely at the scripture and comparing it with different artistic depictions of this powerful event. This helped us understand how artists interpret key moments of faith and how Saul’s encounter with Jesus completely transformed his life.
VE Day Celebrations.
Today, our school came together to celebrate VE Day, a special occasion marking the end of World War II in Europe and the victory of peace and freedom. We remembered the sacrifices made by so many and honoured the courage of those who fought for a better future. To mark the day, we enjoyed biscuits and juice together, and played games that brought smiles and laughter, showing the spirit of unity and joy that VE Day represents.
Crowning of Mary
Today, we celebrated the Crowning of Mary, a beautiful ceremony honouring Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Mother of Jesus. It is a special tradition that reminds us of Mary's love, faith, and devotion to God. Father Desmond joined us for the occasion and gave a heartfelt Homily, helping us reflect on Mary's important role in our faith. The ceremony was a meaningful moment of prayer and togetherness for our school community.
