Welcome to Year 5, Term 6
Our final and most exciting term of the year! We have a fantastic range of activities ahead, including exploring The Nowhere Emporium in our writing, leading the Pentecost Mass at church, and learning all about the human life cycle in Science. In History, we’ll delve into the dramatic events of the Peasants' Revolt, and we’ll also be busy preparing for our Musical Showcase. With Sports Day on the horizon too, we can’t wait to show off all the amazing skills we’ve developed this year!
Reading time!
Only been back a few days and already in our cozy reading corner, enjoying some reading for pleasure, promoting our Reading is King ethos. There is always a queue, once work is completed, to curl up under the blankets and escape in our favourite books - even in the heat!

We were delighted to welcome Father Desmond into our class this term. We had the opportunity to ask him lots of thoughtful questions, and he helped deepen our understanding of our RE topics. He also cleared up an interesting query from a previous lesson—explaining that, from the Church’s point of view, the commandment "Thou shall not kill" refers specifically to human life, not animals. It was a great chance to explore our faith more deeply and learn directly from someone with so much knowledge and experience.
RE: Islamic Workshop
We had the pleasure of attending an enlightening Islamic talk where the speaker warmly shared details of his daily routine, the rhythm of his prayers, and the spiritual depth they bring to his life. He also traced the origins of Islamic practices and thoughtfully connected them to elements of our Catholic faith, highlighting shared values and traditions. We were in rapture, deeply engaged by his sincerity and wisdom, and the conversation blossomed as we asked insightful and thought-provoking questions, eager to understand more about the intersections of our beliefs. It was a moment of genuine dialogue and mutual respect.

We have been very lucky this year to be chosen to help test out a new pilot scheme from The Common Good School. The starter from each lesson has become firm favourites, especially the listening game, which we are still trying to win!
Historical Walking Tour of Maidstone - Peasants Revolt
We went on a fascinating historical walking tour of Maidstone, exploring the story of the Peasants' Revolt. As we walked in the footsteps of the past, we followed clues at different points around the town, uncovering hidden details about this powerful moment in history. A highlight of the day was when the 7th generational owner of the Golden Boot spotted us outside and opened his window to speak to us about the shop's history. We enjoyed a delicious picnic in the beautiful grounds of the Archbishop’s Palace, followed by a cheeky ice cream treat before heading back to school.
Inter-House Sports Event
What a fabulous morning we have had. We took part in Holy Family's very first Inter-House sporting event, run by our lovely Mrs Piper. We had so much fun at each station, where there were games such as; Hockey Dribble, Hoop Flip, Rugby Run, Cricket Wicket and Tick Tack Toe. It was lovely to see everyone cheering on their friends and trying to beat their own scores.
